Inspire Notes:
Ms Jenna Lyons who demonstrates her impeccable taste running J Crew let the cameras in to her home to show off her home style choices.
The home is peppered with quirky pieces mixed with modern highlights and several nods to mid twentieth century classic furniture.
The super-elaborate, rather lovely, talking-point chandeliers have their potential pomposity tamed by the height of the room, the functional, stylish furniture and accessories and the casual vibe to the room.
Ikea rugs which have loyally cushioned your humble Editor’s tootsies for many years on the floor are used here as funky throws on the leather chairs.
The kitchen table befits the Brooklyn townhouse vibe. It is simple and cool with complimentary simple wooden floors. Note the classic Harry Bertoia wire mesh chairs that Jenna Lyons has bedecked with white padded covers for comfort.
There is always room for a giant dry plant and this is a cosy little area for taking time out and bathing in heaps of daylight whilst maybe taking a little English tea with American cookies. The elegant white Eero Saarinen side table is a lovely little touch.
Hanging over the bed we spy the iconic spider lighting from the Serge Mouille stable, then…the black bedroom. Well…it kinda..works doesn’t it?
Whilst white can create calm and peaceful, black can create calm and dangerous, (exciting dangerous), or calm and sophisticated. The dark chocolate buffed wood flooring is delicious.
Love how the black is interrupted by the reveal of the light coloured bathroom, balancing the deviation with more black from the roll-top bath and black side walls. Niiiice.
Note the crisp white linen with simple red detail from Olatz Linens.
The exotically interesting lighting themes continue with a slight peek of the dramatically beautiful Taraxacum lighting by Achille Castiglioni in the converted dressing room.

This Brooklyn townhouse was renovated introducing modern conveniences whilst retaining it’s 18th century detail and integrity.
There are some gorgeous elements to this home typical of creative owners. Having kept the integrity of this home’s history they have laid their individual taste and quirks throughout. To come up with something similar it is all about what YOU can bring to the environment.
It is about character and personal spirit laid atop the building structure or blank canvas. For example, clearly a style maven, Ms Lyons converted a whole room to her heaving wardrobe and plentiful shoes.
If you have the same shoe issues we have suggested a similar idea to hers below, (in mega form), for containment and display. When you click through there are yet more suggestions for your footware collection on the product page.
The decision to go for a charcoal bedroom smacks of the creative dare and flare of someone used to following their own path and vision, so chuck out the rule book.
The bathroom with its brass fixtures and roll-top bath would not look out of place in a serene little farmhouse in Provence, again indicating the influence of the owners experience, travel and quirk laid over the foundations.
So decorate your own surroundings with pieces that reflect your own life and passions as a key focus. That way no matter how much style you ‘borrow’ or derivate, YOUR home is still unassailably YOUR home.
Ms Lyons created her version of the large elongated crystal chandelier by restringing some of the crystals to the end result she desired.
As we hear that she is a little busy(!) we have sourced her chandelier plus other examples of varying size, (for different height rooms), that have the same feel as her own. Get creative also by removing elements from the chandeliers we have put forward, or adding more to them to make your own perfect version.
NB. Ms Lyons has subsequently moved from this home.
