Inspire Notes:
The architects of 01 Arq have produced superlative work in this simple, raw but refined coastal home in Huentelauquen Chile.
They have profited from the amazing landscape and the home provides just a thin glass facade to face the ruggedly beautiful environment.
Some really simple ideas to take away: The entire chalkboard wall. The simple white and cream skin allied with natural materials like wood and rattan, smartly punctuated by the dark wood floor trim and support poles.
It’s not even right is it? That I sit here (happily) writing about this magnificent home rather than untidily slouching right there on that bum-ready couch staring wide eyed and in awe of that magnificent view.
Listening only to the sound of gently crashing waves, with the sun throwing rays at my feet balanced lazily on that coffee table…it’s just not right…
‘♪ Oooogh! Heaven is a place on earth…♪’

This is a gorgeous home. It is a holiday home, but for minimalists and down-sizers it is just simply, a home. Every element is about simplicity and nature.
You could bring the Game-Boy and the 50″ screen and various other tech gadgets here but…um…why? If you have a soul, could there really be any film or game to surpass that view...ever? And could you even live long enough to get bored of it?!
And that, dear reader is the key to creating this space in your own space. We cannot source where you can buy the ocean or such incredible views if you’re a city dweller, but you can create pockets of peace in your own home by lifting a few of the ideas from here.
Nothing is jarring or flashy here. It is all natural materials as aforementioned. Wood, rattan…check out the bedside tables in the bedroom. Just old rustic storage crates.
Peep the pebbles atop the bedroom wall. They have brought pieces of nature in to decorate the space. Make your own dry shrubs and twiggy accessories or invest in a few choice artisanal art pieces.
The platform bed looks handmade. The fabulous floor light looks handmade. Mimic those amazing views by introducing artwork that reflects them.
Don’t minimize here! Get great big f*** off artwork to dominate the vibe in a particular room!
Keep the lighting simple shaped, no ritzy, glittering chandeliers and bear in mind that this type of home style paired with clutter is not a marriage that works.
Things, yes. Your things, yes. Children’s things, yes. Mindfully chosen things that you will always love, yes. But not meaningless, transient clutter.
