Herzliya Home

 Inspire Notes:

This highly spectacular, angular home built in Israel is the work of Sharon Neuman Architects. The decision to build this ecological home with such visually jarring angular plains impacts completely on the interior of the house as you will see below.

It is such a work of art that it is almost farcical for being built next to the more conventional two family home next door, dampening a little of its singular lawless majesty.

The glass facade above is just glorious with modesty frosting on the lower part of the first floor whilst the bottom floor large windows invites the outside in and the inside out.

The designers are playing with us! Look at the angular lines cut into that display unit and shelf as a little respectful bow to the architecture.

The juxtaposition of simple contemporary abstract art meeting the more traditional rug is killing it in this section of the house. Love it!

The massive industrial piping running through the house works. It just works! And yet does not steal any of the chic-ness from this gorgeous space.

Check the vertical recessed wall lighting folks…Hallo! In fact lighting a-go-go in this space. There’s the horizontal strip lighting in the kitchen area, the Non Random light in the dining area, the long drop black pendants on the pasageway in two styles. Not to mention the Good Lord’s lighting flooding in from the massive un-curtained windows.

This is simply a class act. Ultra-stylish and fabulous.

Everything works, down to the rustic bowl of fruit. The angular walls are not my favourite feature from this home but they do work in this context. In fact that cut-in architectural angle together with the privacy separator, (with the gorgeous sculptural art on above), has created a neat little gathering nook at the end of the building, preceding the garden.

It’s simple and an almost throwaway home accessory accent, but isn’t that the most delightful bunch of flowers for this space? The size, the arrangement, the fresh green colour?

Every piece in this home has been put together with enormous care and wisdom. Everything is working visually in tandem with the next item.

The off white marble floor and white walls with black and brown accents from the furniture, fixtures and fittings.

Not everyone will be blessed with such high ceilings and the incredible square footage in this home but as with a lot of the beautiful homes we feature, one is able to take some lessons from the style of the whole home, or indeed just small sections of it and transport it to any other space.

For example, the use of rustic elements against the white / off white skin of the place. The rustic fruit bowl and the character-ful milk stool with or without the backrest really works. Perhaps a couple of milk stools would look great in a smaller place.

And it is the shabby-cut wood rustic-ness that brings the flavour here. Anything sleeker or decidedly modern would perhaps over-contemporize and the home could lack style, funk and personality.

Handsome choices such as the steel balustrades against the simple wood flooring at upper level and the white door passage way are just simple and cool.

There are certainly many inline cupboards and many well designed hidden recesses to keep clutter at bay. Clearly there is a minimalist intention in some areas, but that is countered with some lovely, welcoming seating areas.

As ever, light light light is the key accessory with mahoosive, uncluttered windows to allow the daylight in to make all those muted colours zing in the sun stream. Despite the abundance of white, it does not feel restrictive to children because of theeasy clean materials used.

So to achieve this look, three words: you will need to declutter, keep it classy and beg, borrow (steal) or buy oodles of style.
