Inspire Notes:
Like most people involved with style to earn their living, it invariably crosses over and spills into other areas of life. Acne fashionista Nina Bergstern is no different.
Her home is a veritable mix of calming whites, light chevron wood flooring, quirky Swedish design, vintage finds and classic furniture cuts.
For example…and just for starters, the scene above features the neat lined Curve Sofa with slightly overly-staged cushions that make you want to have a cushion fight and mish them up a bit. Then there’s the kooky Baklava lamp from Swedish design powerhouse Claesson Koivisto Rune. The sturdy marble table is a 1960’s creation…
In the next image you can just see Achilles Castiglioni’s classic Taraxacum lighting peeking down onto Ms Bergstern’s equally classic Musselmalet china tea set on a marble table surrounded by Monica Forster Antelope Chairs.
The multi-pane church-like windows really set a style tone for this space as does the traditional cast iron radiator.
Well, this is all rather lovely isn’t it? Wood flooring meets a white four poster bed with Foscarini Aplomb Suspension Lighting hovering overhead
Eye-sweep! Eye-sweep! Eye-sweep!…Delightful and not-too-common light wood chevron flooring meets high, high walls and a ridonculous eye-catcher of a ceiling, although not entirely convinced about the cluster of tables.
The lovely Ligne Roset white wool rug with white Harry Bertoia Diamond Chairs and a casual faux fur throw…niiiiiiiiiiice!

The one word description I would choose for this space is ‘charming‘. The shell is pretty easy to achieve, white walls, light wood flooring decked with light coloured rugs here and there. Then there’s the decorative cornices you can spy in the top image and the white painted traditional steel radiators.
These are structural and foundation items that help set the style tone of a place.
Ms Bergstern’s quirky and interesting style has then been laid atop. There is lots of Swedish influence and her love for vintage and classic certainly suits the ready made environment.
Check out the unbelievable ceiling 3 images up and note how her choices blend and work in partnership with it. The industrial looking copper chandelier, the wildly shaped Acne sofa, the gold leg tables and the Taraxacum pendant lights shining an innovative pathway through to the next rooms. Without a doubt this room gives good eye-sweep.
We always, always advise that you impose your unique personality, travels and experience onto your home space, (aside from the pictures of the munchkins and ‘Nana).
In this way it doesn’t matter if you have the same furnishings or accessories as someone else, the space will still have your unique feel about it. Ms Bergstern has done this with the artwork 2 images up.
They are photocopies of her friends professional photographs…just run through a normal printer. You see? Who else would do this and in the same way?
And there are plenty of bits and pieces she has rescued from flea and vintage markets such as the gold mirror and parts of the fireplace.
The message? Decide the style tone of your space, either choose it or acknowledge the one already there and work with it, then put the most interesting aspects of YOU, your journeys, passions, choices, talents, ideas and personality on display. I know it will be beautiful…
