Rural Holland Home

Inspire Notes:

This the home of Ms Paula Leen and Mr Kees Middendorp. They live on a harbour in Northern Holland. Ms Leen is a Dutch felt artist and has created many of the items seen in this space. See the lamp in the bedroom below. Their creative influence is all over the home.

Fond of recycling and upcycling, Mr Middendorp built the kitchen pantry from the home’s wood flooring. Ms Leen commissioned a local ironsmith to build the 11 foot long kitchen island.

Sheeps wool plays a major role with other natural materials in creating the rural vibe of this home space. Ms Leen experimented with it by dragging loose wool wrapped around a concrete roller behind a tractor.

After an hour the fibres would weave together creating a usable fabric. These days she uses a large, self built steel  contraption in her workshop.

“I like buildings where people work with their hands, where craftspeople do their thing—that was an inspiration for our house.” Ms Paula Leen.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” “Let freedom ring! Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California. But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.” “We will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
