Inspire Notes:
Ms Michaela Scherrer is somewhat a high priestess of simple rustic charm. Her interior design ideas are steeped in creating alluring, tranquil spaces and if this is what you desire, careful note should be taken not just of her eye for placement and colour palettes but of her choice of artful accessories.
This beautiful floor standing wrought iron lamp above is one such example. It is a great find which sits perfectly with the artists colour scheme and spatial awareness. The crumpled linen on the bed…
The glass blown vases above are another example. She creates the feel of the space and then adds the delightfully unexpected accent.
She creates cohesive style. Take note of the worn rug above. How wrong would it look brand spanking new?

Ms Scherrer’s work is terribly thoughtful. One can tell that it has been put together by one who knows, but the end result does not feel belaboured. Indeed quite the opposite. She creates calm, simple sophistication. To recreate this peaceful, natural home style, let’s take a look at how she does it.
Straight outta the box: she uses generous amounts of linen. There is something about the lovely and wrinkled imperfection of this cloth that creates such a natural vibe.
Perhaps because it’s history harkens back to centuries before. But once you clothe a sofa or bedding with a lovely linen throw you will have something of this ‘look’ instantly.
She mixes mid century classics like the Saarinen tables with antiques or antique feel accessories and furniture, such as that lovely little footstool, or the worn out rug which, as aforementioned, would look ‘wrong‘ if it were to be replaced for a shining new one in this setting.
So don’t be afraid to hang on to old gear that brings a handsome new edge or vibe to a space. She has matched and mis-matched in the living room space – check out the variety of seating and yet with the large exterior planters which she has used indoors, she has anchored the space by opting to pair them.
