Inspire Notes:
This home chimes so many bells with us. It is a home clearly built to the utter desire of it’s inhabitants.
It is not the same ol’ same’ol. It’s probably not for everybody – it’s not an eyeball kisser by any stretch of the
imagination and stands out from the neighbours homes like an alien warship – but who cares!
Plus with this home your children may just love you forever! This three floor building has a perimeter slide that whizzes you down to the second and first floor.
Endless fun and great exercise, especially if you are coming back up the slide instead of taking the stairs.
The rest of the home is rather disappointingly conventional by contrast. Lots of wood and white. Minimal in some
areas and maximal in others.
Aspects of the interior and architecture have been designed with rounded curves
rather than sharp edges which is interesting…
But back to the slide!!! The architects were challenged to build a home that the children would never forget.
We think they delivered and full marks to the parents for their fearlessness, wit and imagination.
On the negative side, lets hope the kids aren’t completely bored of the slide within one week and want a real alien warship!
“We rejected the easy way out. Rather than placing the slide next to the staircase or installing it in a playroom, they boldly made it an integral part of the house. After entering the ground-floor entrance to the house, you ascend the staircase to the right, along the wall, and climb past the first floor to the second storey. The trip back down takes seconds when you use the slide, which runs along the entire inner perimeter of the building.
We spent a lot of time trying to figure out the right angle of the slope, best materials for the slide and the ideal construction method of the curved corners where the wall had to be reinforced.” ~ LEVEL Architects.
